Steps to Remove SharePoint 2010 Alerts


go to "My Alerts on this Site"

http://mysharepointsite.com/_layouts/MySubs.aspx

Select and Remove the "Alert" 

What happened to “Alert Me” SharePoint 2010 document library?

There are two different settings you need to check.

1. Central admin / Manage web applications / General Settings / outgoing emails

Make sure you configured this correctly.



2. Central admin / Manage web applications / General Settings / General Settings

Make sure “Alerts” are turned “On”

I don't want to copy his content  but like to add that this configuration changes "will work even from your custom user controls/webparts"
